About Mrs. McMahon

Mrs. Julie McMahon is originally from Ponce Inlet, Florida (near Daytona Beach). In her middle through high school years, she played a variety of sports (volleyball, basketball, softball, track), played clarinet in the band, sang in the chorus, performed with the drama club, and acted as class representative for student government.

After high school, Mrs. McMahon attended Valdosta State University on a volleyball and academic scholarship. She was a 4-year starter on the volleyball team and earned numerous awards (All-Conference, Academic All-Conference and more) while she was there. She graduated in 2001 with a B.S. in Secondary English Education and got married a month later.

Mrs. McMahon has taught at Winder-Barrow Middle School (Winder, GA - near Athens), Sol C Johnson High School (Savannah, GA), John de la Howe/L.S. Brice School (McCormick, SC), Greenwood High School (Greenwood, SC), Northside Middle School (Greenwood, SC), and now she's back at Greenwood High School.

In between and during her years of teaching, Mrs. McMahon was a magazine editor and writer, a graphic artist, a salesperson, and an escape room owner. She has coached several years of college, high school, and club volleyball. She is currently the director and a coach of Emerald City Juniors Volleyball here in Greenwood, SC and is the GHS volleyball coach, as well. 

Mrs. McMahon's husband Rob worked at Westview Middle School as a social studies teacher in the STEMS program for 13 years 2020. He is now working for District 52 as the Instructional Technology Specialist. Mrs. McMahon has three kids: Elizabeth (18 years old, will be a freshman at Winthrop this fall), Timothy (16 years old, 11th grade at GHS), and Callum (6 years old, 1st gradeGCS), and she has three dogs: Howie (10 year old adult rescue golden lab), Oreo "Cookie" Monster (9 year old shih tzu/pomeranian mix), and Ace (2 year old chocolate lab/mountain feist mix). 

Mrs. McMahon is really looking forward to a great school year and is excited to get to know her students!
