WILLIE
BLUFORD, JR.
Willie Bluford, Jr., a
1968 graduate of Brewer
High School, was an
outstanding athlete participating in football, basketball, and track. However, it was in football where Willie
excelled. He played both fullback and
linebacker for the Bulldogs varsity squad.
He was a member of the Block B Club and finished second in the school
weight lifting competition. Not only
did Willie excel in athletics, but he was also voted senior class president by
his classmates. Upon graduating from
high school, he received an athletic scholarship to play football at Marshall University
in Huntington, West Virginia. At Marshall
he was an outstanding linebacker with hopes of a professional career. If the NFL didn’t work out, his plan was to
attend a school
of Mortuary Science or
to become a teacher and coach. Willie
was tragically killed, along with his teammates and coaches, when their
chartered plane crashed outside Huntington
as they were returning from an away game.
