The Journey
is Complete
By: Wes Abrams
We’ve done it my brothers. We put aside all of our differences and came
together to meet a common goal. We’ve
endured twelve months of hardship and adversity to become state champions. The first days of practice seems like just
yesterday. I’m sure we all remember that
the majority of us did not make it through the extreme temperatures of the
first few practices but we hung in there.
As we faced the adversities of the 2006 season, we kept one phrase in the
back of our minds “It Takes A little More To Be A
Champion.” As I walk through the halls
of our school and see my fellow comrades, I no longer see the boys we once
were, I see warriors, I see men, and most of all I see champions. We did what
no one else had the courage to do. We
individuals came together and created a team.
We became brothers not because the coaches told us that we should but
because we wanted to be champions.
Now that the
season is over it seems like we have little to look forward to. We only have the memories from the past four
years. There is no longer the threat of
being “kicked off the bus.” That being
said, we should be proud of our accomplishments and know that we have left our
mark on Greenwood High history, and no one can take that from us. So, my brothers be
jovial. The journey for the ring is over
and we’ve come up on the top of the deal.
We did what it took to be champions and that’s all that matters.
