Ronnie Aughtry
Ronnie Aughtry, a 1954
graduate of Greenwood High, was an outstanding football player. He played in both the Shrine Bowl and the
North-South All Star games. He was
co-captain of the 1953 Greenwood team and was
chosen All State and Honorable Mention All
American. After attending Wofford College and playing football for two
years, Ronnie joined the U.S. Marine Corp for three years. After his discharge, he finished his college
career at Western
Carolina University
and in 1958 was chosen All Conference.
From 1969-1977 Ronnie was the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach
at McCormick High. His teams won three
Conference Championships. He served as
an Assistant Coach in the Shrine Bowl and as both an Assistant and Head Coach
in the North-South game. He was selected
as one of the Lakeland’s
Greatest Football Players of the 20th Century.
