Neville Files, a 1969 graduate of Greenwood High,
was a three year Varsity Letterman in football, basketball, and
baseball. During his senior year,
1968-1969, he helped the football team win the State Championship; the
baseball team win the Upper State Championship, and
was named the Most Valuable Player in basketball. During the 1968 football season, he
accounted for 1,032 total yards, scored 13 TD’s, had 7 pass interceptions, and as a result of his
outstanding play, received a scholarship to the University of South
Carolina.
In addition, he was a four year starter for the American Legion Post
20 baseball team, which won the State Championship in 1967. While at USC he was a three year Varsity
Letterman. His senior year, 1972, he
led the team in interceptions with 4, had 33 tackles, and 3 fumble
recoveries. He was named Sports
Illustrated National Back of the Week for his play against Florida State. After the season, he was named USC’S Most
Valuable Player, selected to the South Carolina All State Team, and was
chosen to play in the Blue-Gray All Star Classic
