Cleveland Spencer
Cleveland Spencer, a 1972
graduate of Greenwood High, was one of the best basketball players in South Carolina during
his high school career. The 1970-1971
season saw him average 24 points and 22 rebounds per game, while during the
1971-1972 season, he averaged 27 points and 20 rebounds per game. The 1971-1972 team had a 22-4 record, the
second best record in the past forty years, and played in the Upper State Semi-finals. Cleveland
was selected to the All
State team and played in
the 1972 North–South All Star game. He
received a basketball scholarship to Florida
A&M University. He ranks eighth all time in career points
with 1478 and fourth all time in rebounding with 827. Cleveland
played in 101 games at Florida A&M averaging 14.6 points and 8.2 rebounds
per game.
